Content based and competence based
syllabus: the syllabus 1996 emphasize much on teacher centered
method of teaching where by the teacher act as the controller of teaching and
learning activities, while students have no room to express their knowledge,
which limit the students to show their creativity so as to develop their
knowledge and to acquire new knowledge. While the current syllabus 2005
emphasizes much on learner centered method of teaching and learning where
learner seems to have the room for knowledge exchanges between themselves and
the teacher also the teacher is just facilitator of knowledge acquiring to
students. During class session students participate fully in learning
activities through group discussion, presentation and other cooperative method
of teaching and learning.
The use of ICT teaching and
learning activities: this was not emphasized on the old
syllabus 1996 due to lack of technology, lack of experts, which bring about
difficult in teaching and and learning scientific subject like biology,
therefore such situation bring to poor performance science subjects. While the
new syllabus 2005 emphasize much on the use of ICT on teaching and learning
activities like use of video tapes, recorders, computer and projectors. The use
of ict bring about smooth accessibility of materials and easy delivering of
them to the learners, which improve the performance of students.
